Zx12r battery problem

Post by zx12bry » Wed Jul 02, 2014 8:52 pm

Hi guys, Been running my bike to work lately came home Monday night everything fine
went out to start it Tuesday morning and it started then stopped and wouldn't start, my acumen digi gear indicator said it only had 11.5 volts,
gave up and used the van. got back to it tonight took out battery and tested with my volt meter 12.5 volts connected battery booster pack to bike without battery
digi indicator showed 12.8 volts bike started fine and showed 14.4 when running. put battery back in and showed 9.6 volts
i'm thinking new battery but would the rectifier be causing the problem? is there any way to test this? thanks for any help.

cheers.
Bryan.

I had a new battery die on me the other month but I put up a post on BO12 about places to check for problems.
Just got yourself a ZX-9R, then do yourself and your bike a favour, read this thread the sticky post in General Technical viewtopic.php?f=21&t=28097

Please will forum members put their bike model letter, & 1 or 2 after their Profile Location. eg: Your Town & B1,2,3,4 C1,2 E1,2 F1,2
As all zx9's are all slightly different, and I get fed up having to ask which model & number, as a year may not be accurate.

That's a good output,I'd charge the battery up and periodically check to see how much voltage it is losing.

You could also test the output on the alternator and check the wiring and plugs at the reg/rec just to see if there's any signs of any issues.
